2 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured In Louisiana Car Accident
The warmer weather that signals the start of summer for much of the rest of the country has already been here in Louisiana for several weeks. Sadly, for some, this normally pleasant time has not been without tragedy. A recent car accident took two lives and left another person seriously injured. Police are still searching for answers as to exactly why the crash occurred and say they have not ruled out the possibility of filing criminal charges.
The accident happened on a recent weekend morning on an Interstate 55. Police say that a passenger vehicle, occupied by the driver and two passengers, was heading north in the right-most lane. A truck going in the same direction was using the lane to the left of that vehicle. The two vehicles allegedly collided for unknown reasons, and both veered off of the roadway and ran into trees on the side of the interstate. First responders rushed the driver and passengers of the passenger vehicle to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver and one of the passengers did not survive.
Police report that the driver of the truck was uninjured and there is no word on the current condition of the other passenger. Officers are still attempting to determine exactly what happened and they say they have collected blood samples to determine if anyone involved may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. They say they may decide to file criminal charges as a result of their investigation.
If Louisiana officials determine that the pickup truck driver was responsible for the car accident, criminal charges may not be the only legal matter he or she may face. The families of the deceased victims may decide to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit as a way of securing monetary damages that may help them cover unexpected expenses related to the crash, and the surviving passenger can pursue a personal injury claim. Anyone in a similar situation may want to confer with an attorney with experience in handling these often complicated legal proceedings.
